Burn Run 5K Recap!!
Sorry these are the only photos I have and it’s not even of the race it’s of the new mizuno cold weather shirt I got and Garmin stats. Let me say a few things about this shirt while it was expensive it’s amazing. Most of the other long sleeves I had tried were super tight in the shoulders or showed even lump this was different is thin but it’s warm. The fabric uses your body and sweat to create heat to keep you warm. This shirt is amazing no chafing issues and it def kept me warm I recommend.
As for the race I felt like there were so many more people this year which is awesome cause it helps support burn victims and there needs. Going into this race I didn’t really have a lot of expectation it would be a great race to PR but I also knew I was still sore from crossfit and I haven’t been running regularly. That morning it was about 20 degrees and raining when I got up which always scares me cause that’s how I sprained my foot last year was running in the cold. Also this was a race I wasn’t sure I was going to have any support at the end cause I hadn’t heard from mike. I got there will plenty of time to spare changed into my shoes and put on my mittens. First pit stop was the bathroom. After that I took a quick lap around the firehouse to see if I knew anyone then made my way to the starting line. It was about 5 mins before the sirens went off signaling the start of the race when I got a text from mike saying he had over slept. He said he would try to make it to the finish line to see me I told him I’d be about 30 mins or so and before I knew it we were off. I started out strong and prob way too fast with the crowd but I felt good. It wasn’t till about a half mile in though that I had warmed up enough to really get into it. There were two different girls I kept playing leap frog with while it was driving me nuts it gave me someone to pace myself with. Cause at about .75 miles I knew I needed to slow down or else I’d die there hasn’t been once I have run more than one under 10 min mile. So I backed off and let the one girl pass me everything was great till I stopped for water. It was so cold water I thought would help but walking killed about 30 seconds to a min of my final time so I should have just kept moving. After mile two the mental game kicked in and I thought of Kari who wasn’t able to run this weekend and Melissa who no matter what runs everyday. That last mile was for both of you cause I’m pretty sure if it wasn’t a race and I didn’t know either of you I would have tossed in the towel so thank you. I finally made it to the finish line which was a relief but mike had not made it in time. My official time was 36:51 with a pace of 11:52 I had forgotten to stop my Garmin after I crossed the line. Last years time was 36:10 with a pace of 11:31 so that kinda bummed me out but I placed better overall and in my age group this year so that made it better. Last year there were massages this year nothing but loud music and food from my favorite restaurant but they made a pasta dish which is a no no so I quickly checked my results and left since not to much else was going on.
Overall I think this is a great race which I’ll prob do again next year it’s flat and fast. Plus for the most part really well organized which is always a plus. Also if you take away mile one where I went out too fast negative splits for once go me!!
